The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless others at the hands of police call attention to broken institutions, which have denied basic rights to Black communities for far too long. At Huckleberry Youth Programs, we denounce police brutality and actively work against all systemic racism. We condemn the repeated social, economic, and physical violence against Black members of our community and recognize these events are not isolated. The number of abuses highlight deep, intractable, and destructive institutional racism across our Country.
It has been a painful time for too many, for too long. Huckleberry adds our voice to the demand for racial justice. We continue to seek methods of dismantling institutional racism and challenge ourselves to do better. We hear the deep pain in our communities of color and are inspired by the young people rising up, motivated for dramatic change, like the young people how have organized throughout the past year.
A pillar of our mission is social JUSTICE, which cannot be realized until there is racial justice in all our communities. At Huckleberry, we stand in solidarity with the Black community, Black leaders, and all those fighting for racial equity.
As a mental health provider, we understand how trauma manifests in our daily lives. Huckleberryβs therapists are standing by to speak to youth and their families who need support at this critical time. Call us, 24 hours a day, at 415.621.2929.
