Sandy, HWA-SF, Pursuing a Master’s in Public Health, USF Sacramento
Twenty-five years ago, Sandy’s parents moved to the U.S. from China. Because her parents didn’t attend college and aren’t native English speakers, they couldn’t provide much support when it came time for Sandy, a graduate of Lowell High School, to apply to colleges. The Huckleberry Wellness Academy-SF was able to help Sandy immensely by, “providing the type of support that I didn’t get from my parents.” HWA helped her apply to college and grad school.
She graduated from SF State and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in public policy, research, and leadership at USF Sacramento. Her goal is to work in the field of healthcare and improve healthcare delivery for the Asian American population.
“HWA has provided me with socioemotional support from adult figures I’ve known since high school. They motivated and encouraged me – they really look after their graduates.”
