SALARY: $42,000-$46,000 FTE

Huckleberry Youth Programs (HYP) is a critical provider of essential safety net services for high-needs youth and their families in San Francisco and Marin County. For over 40 years, HYP has developed and maintained prevention programs that promote the health and leadership of youth, and, as a result, divert youth from violence, crime and gang involvement, as well as other harmful behaviors, including running away, drug/alcohol abuse, risky sexual activities, and involvement in the juvenile justice system. The agency employs 50 staff members, and operates on a $4 million annual budget.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Prevention Specialist is a member of the Huckleberry Youth Multi-Service Center (a collaborative project of Huckleberry Youth Programs, Larkin Street Youth Services, and DPH/Community Health Programs for Youth) that serves transitional age youth (16-23). The Prevention Specialist will work 5 days per week (occasional Saturdays), providing intakes, clinical assessments, case management and counseling services to clients and facilitating youth leadership groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MSW or equivalent degree required.
- Must be BBS registered or eligible to register. Clinical supervision hours towards licensure provided by agency.
- Two years experience working with high-risk adolescents and communities of color preferred.
- Ability to work in a collaborative process and negotiate multidisciplinary systems.
- Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Other requirements: Criminal Justice clearance, valid CA driver's license, clean DMV and 2 years driving experience, valid 1st Aid/CPR.
- Medi-Cal experience a plus.
- Must be able to lift & carry up to 10 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide intake services to youth who access the multi-service center including receiving referrals from outreach teams.
- Provide screenings for youth to determine their service needs including mental health, employment, education, recreation and leadership development.
- Develop, monitor, and implement service plans and interventions.
- Provide early intervention services including clinical assessments as indicated for youth with mental health needs.
- Provide individual and/or family counseling to adolescents.
- Maintain contact with other service providers to ensure that clients’ needs are met as seamlessly as possible.
- Perform accurate and timely record-keeping and documentation including MediCal charting and billing.
- Participate in staff development activities including: individual supervision, group supervision, client review, staff meetings, clinical trainings and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Facilitate youth leadership groups as needed.
- Gain familiarity with referral resources including researching and visiting potential referral sites.
- Other duties as assigned.
